Jay Roberts is a weekend host on Classical WETA 90.9 FM. Jay’s career as a musician, teacher, and writer has taken him around the world.
In his musician persona, Jay is a singer, pianist, composer, and teacher, and has served as music director at several churches. He has composed hymns, musicals, children’s songs, and piano pieces. He even surprised one potential employer by composing a sing-along number for the job interview.
Wearing his instructor’s hat, he has taught music, English, and computer applications in school, business, and non-profit settings. He spent seven years living in Dakar, Senegal (West Africa), teaching music and English at a K-12 American school.
As a writer, his projects have ranged from bioethics white papers to computer user manuals, marketing pieces to medical procedures, and book reviews to grant proposals for a wide variety of clients.
Jay is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Music in Ann Arbor and of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School near Chicago. He and his wife, Eileen, also a classically trained musician, sang together in Ann Arbor’s annual Christmas presentation of Handel’s Messiah, but didn’t actually meet for several more years. They now reside in Jay’s home state of Virginia and still enjoy singing together.
