Heroes of 9/11

Patrick Anderson revisits Stuyvesant High School in New York, where he sought refuge on 9/11 and met Emily Maroney, the stranger who took care of him in the hours after the attacks. Patrick tells Ann Curry of her kindness to him and his hopes of finding Emily again.

Chaplain Timothy Mallard revisits the area of the Pentagon hit by Flight 77 on 9/11. He then visits the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps Museum to look through his diary from 2001 in search of clues as to the identity of the mystery coast guard chaplain who comforted him.

Patrick Anderson visits Thornton Photographic Studio where Emily Maroney worked in 2001 and meets with owner Edward Thornton, to ask if he has any information on Emily’s whereabouts today.

Chaplain Timothy Mallard meets with a former Chaplain, Pastor Leroy Gilbert, in search of information on his mystery coast guard Chaplain from 9/11. Leroy shares with Timothy a story he heard in the days after 9/11.

Join Ann Curry for dramatic reunions between people whose lives intersected on 9/11. Patrick searches for the stranger who comforted him after the disaster, and Tim hopes to thank the fellow chaplain who gave him the strength to carry on.
