WETA Arts spotlights visual and performing arts in Greater Washington and celebrates the diverse cultural heritage of the nation’s capital. The half-hour magazine-style show presents a variety of stories, profiles and discussions, while introducing emerging and established artists alike. In this episode of WETA Arts: the surprising partnership between NASA and the National Symphony Orchestra, muralist Lisa Marie Thalhammer, bilingual folk-rock band Elena & Los Fulanos, and ideas for your next arts outing.

Conductor Emil De Cou loves music, of course, but also space. We follow him to Goddard Space Center where he reconnects with his scientific collaborators with whom he creates National Symphony Orchestra concerts illustrated by NASA footage.

We profile Lisa Marie Thalhammer, an award-winning visual artist whose work features messages of strength and hope. Based in DC, she is best-known for her “LOVE” mural located in Washington’s Blagden Alley.
