Miss. 'Goon Squad' case highlights abuse in rural areas

In Mississippi, six former officers are being sentenced for their roles in a series of brutal attacks. The self-proclaimed "Goon Squad" members pleaded guilty to assaulting two Black men by repeatedly shocking them with Tasers, sexually assaulting them with a sex toy and shooting one man in the face, nearly killing him. China tightens grip on Hong Kong with law punishing dissent

Agreement may not pass in time to avoid government shutdown

Much of the U.S. government is waiting to see if Congress manages to avoid a partial shutdown that could begin this weekend. Lawmakers say they have struck a deal, but they do not have it in writing yet and they are running out of time. Supreme Court clears way for Texas to deport migrants

The U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for Texas to enforce a controversial immigration law that allows state officials to arrest and deport migrants who cross the border illegally. Experts warn of 'imminent’ famine in Gaza
