Wild Ireland: Kingdom of Stone

Follow the story of a pine marten as she takes us on a journey through a landscape of grey stone called the Burren, home to some of Ireland’s most enchanting wildlife.

Basking sharks are the second biggest fish on the planet, up to 40 feet long and four tons in weight. While these massive sharks are typically solitary, they have recently been found gathering together. And no one knows why.

The slow worm is neither a snake nor a worm but a legless lizard. Its round tongue and moving eyelids put it in the lizard category.

Born inside a hollow tree in mid-April, two pine martens were born vulnerable and dependent on their mother. By the end of the summer, these kits were venturing out on their own.

Director John Murray has filmed animals all over the world but has always wanted to capture the lives of the creatures in this extraordinarily rocky outcrop on the west coast of Ireland - the Burren. Nestled against the unforgiving coast of the Wild Atlantic Ocean, this is a harsh landscape like almost no other.
