Legendary University of Texas football coach Darrell Royal was inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame on April 26, 2014. A huge fan of country music and the music scene emerging in Austin in the 1970s, Coach Royal helped expand the booking of Austin City Limits and inspired the guitar pull format of several shows throughout the early decades of the program.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double trouble made their ACL debut with the release of Texas Flood, showcasing Stevie's fiery guitar playing. They returned to ACL in 1989, on the heels of In Step, the strongest record of their career. The stunning performance by Double Trouble, which at this point included keyboardist Reese Wynans, and Stevie further enshrined their work in ACL's hallowed history.
