Washington National Opera’s 2026-2027 season, a celebration of independence as a new opera company, opens on November 7, 2026 and includes a variety of eras and styles at various venues in the Washington, DC area. Included are three presentations at the historic DAR Constitution Hall in November in honor of America 250; a holiday theatrical adventure in December; WNO’s signature American Opera Initiative in January to showcase short operas by new, emerging artists; and a WNO commission in March -- O’Keefe: Kiss The Sky by Christopher Tin -- based on the life of American artist Georgia O’Keefe. And beloved favorites, including Mozart’s Idomeneo and Verdi’s La traviata, are also on the bill. Details at www.washnatopera.org.
Here’s my conversation with Francesca Zambello, WNO’s Artistic Director, who gives us details and insights into these productions.
