The combined glories of music and nature are in abundance this summer at Wolf Trap! The National Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, will perform on two consecutive evenings at the Filene Center, starting with an all-Beethoven program on August 14 that includes Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony featuring Wolf Trap soloists and the Washington Chorus. The following evening, August 15, the NSO and Maestro Noseda celebrate American composers and their contributions to film, opera and Broadway, with music by Bernstein, Gershwin and Peter Boyer. Wolf Trap Opera is also in full swing this summer with a varied menu -- Rossini’s La Cenerentola, based on the Cinderella story, June 18, 21, 25 and 27 and Tchaikovsky's sweeping Eugene Onegin, July 17, 19, 23 and 25, all at The Barns. Wolf Trap Opera also presents Puccini’s dramatic Tosca, a one-night-only performance at the Filene Center on Friday, August 7. Details at wolftrap.org.
Here’s my conversation with Lee Anne Myslewski, Vice President for Opera and Classical Programming at Wolf Trap, about these performances.
