The legend of Orpheus – a man so aggrieved by the death of his beloved Euridice that he ventures into the underworld, using music to retrieve her – has captured the creative thoughts of poets, painters and musicians.
The PostClassical Ensemble of Washington DC explores the influence of Orpheus across music, dance and the visual arts in a multimedia presentation titled “Orpheus: The Magic of the Arts”, Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Center. Linda Carducci spoke with PostClassical Ensemble’s Music Director Angel Gil-Ordóñez and Dorothy Kosinski, Director Emerita of the Phillips Collection and curator of this program, about the many facets of Orpheus and how this program delves into the varied artistic expressions of the legend, sometimes in surprising ways.
