November 14, 15 and 16, The Thirteen will present a concert they’re calling Light of a Clear Blue Morning: Quartet Edition. It’s part of their 2025-26 season, which they’re calling Kaleidoscope.
Light of a Clear Blue Morning will be the first time The Thirteen has put on a performance with just four voices. The program, spanning five centuries of music, includes some very familiar works as well as some less-frequently-heard pieces, such as the Six Chansons of Paul Hindemith, and A.M.D.G.: Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, composed by a 25-year-old Benjamin Britten. The concert will conclude with Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” arranged for this performance by the soprano vocalist in the quartet, Amy Broadbent.
I interviewed Artistic Director Matthew Robertson about this event.
