Resplendent Joy, part of this year’s Folger Frost Fair, is a program by the Folger Consort of festive sixteenth-century music from Spain and Portugal, including Spanish villançicos, music for the vihuela, and works by Vicente Lusitano, likely the first published Black composer of European music.
The Classical Arts Society of Washington presents The Gift of the Magi on December 11 at the Arts Club of Washington with pianist Dr. Christopher Schmitt. Ticket price includes hors d’oeuvres and drinks.
Join the Cathedral Choral Society on December 13 & 14 for the Joy of Christmas, a concert of timeless carols and grand choral masterpieces, with Seraph Brass and the Concert Choir of Eastern Senior High School.
The Washington Chorus will offer A Candlelight Christmas at Strathmore and the Kennedy Center, a program of beloved carols and works by American composers Daniel Pinkham, Gavin Tomasco and Carlyle Sharpe.
At National Presbyterian Church, the Washington Bach Consort will offer their annual rendering of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with tenor Thomas Cooley as the Evangelist, presenting parts 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 this year
And, at the Center for the Arts at George Mason University, on December 14 the Vienna Boys Choir will sing holiday music spanning five centuries, from Hans Leo Hassler and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, through Anton Bruckner, to music from the films Sister Act and Quest for Camelot.
