Mount Vernon Virtuosi (MVV), is a string chamber orchestra made up of young, exceptionally skilled performers who are evolving from classical musical training to a professional career, and provides them with a performance platform and an opportunity to retain their considerable musical skills. The ensemble was founded by internationally acclaimed cellist, conductor and pedagogue, Amit Peled, who also serves as its Artistic Director. The ensemble is based in Baltimore, where Mr. Peled is professor of music at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University. As a non-profit organization, MVV is committed to serving communities in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. area by providing free performances and educational initiatives to schools, prisons, hospitals, and community groups, always free of charge.
MVV’s new 2026-27 season starts this month and runs through May 2027. Performances will be held at Baltimore’s Pratt Library and the Church Emmanuel, and St. Ann Church on Yuma Street in Washington, DC.
Here’s my recent conversation with Mr. Peled about MVV, its mission, its upcoming season and his own upcoming cello performances, which will include the world premiere of “Casarrubios for Peled”, a commissioned cello piece composed by Andrea Casarrubios for Mr. Peled and given its first performance by the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra in February 2027.
