Winston Churchill's War

Churchill and Britain's influence begins to wane as the Soviet Union and the United States grow into the most significant players of the war, and his warnings about Soviet intentions following victory are ignored. Before victory in the war has been achieved, his own electorate vote him out in the first general election since war was declared.

Churchill makes crucial decisions and navigates big changes as Britain gains a powerful ally and the war rages on. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and the Germans declare war, the United States has joined the fight. In Eastern Europe, Stalin and the Soviets are in a desperate struggle for survival. Churchill faces terrible reverses in Asia where forces are stretched too thin.

The story continues with a look at his time as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, a time known for his notable speeches. Within days of his ascent he finds himself leading a country that is fighting alone, evacuating British troops from Dunkirk as France falls. Churchill unsheathes the weapon that will influence the morale of his people and ensure his place in history — the English language.

Born into the aristocracy, Winston Churchill began his career with stints in the British cavalry and as a war correspondent, followed by political appointments including Home Secretary and then First Lord of the Admiralty, before serving on the Western Front during World War I.
