CHALK R!OT

In 2013, artist Chelsea Ritter-Soronen founded CHALK R!OT, an all-women art collective with the goal of sharing color and joy through vibrant pavement artwork. Their mural Energy Waves can be found on the Ellsworth Drive walkway in Downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. Want more? Spoken Word to Go-Go

Spoken Word to Go-Go, a poetry competition set to the official music of D.C., highlights local live performers. Watch past Spoken Word to Go-Go performances on the Anacostia Business Improvement District’s YouTube channel. Want to explore the Anacostia Arts and Culture District? Check out Art to Go-Go, a self-guided scooter tour featuring public murals from local artists. Or, visit an open mic night at your local Busboys and Poets, and at Bloombars, a non-profit performance space in Colombia Heights.

Woolly Mammoth - Maria Manuela Goyanes

Maria Manuela Goyanes has been the artistic director for Woolly Mammoth Theatre since 2018.  Following founder Howard Shalwitz’s legacy of innovative and daring stage productions, Goyanes continues to engage the community through theater. The 2023-24 season features the world premiere of the play My Mama and the Full-Scale Invasion. Learn more about Woolly’s civic engagement through its Connectivity program.
