Preview: WETA Arts October 2024
WETA Arts spotlights the Netherlands Carillon, a nine-story-high musical instrument gifted by the Netherlands after World War II. Host Felicia Curry also explores the Brutalist architecture in the D.M.V. with Deane Madsen, founder of the site BrutalistDC.com. Curry also tours the city in search of murals by and for the Latino community.
Netherlands Carillon
The Netherlands Carillon is played by computer every day at noon and 6 PM, with live performances every Sunday. Select Saturdays also feature Netherlands Carillon concerts from guest carillonneurs performing jazz, pop, and patriotic music. You can hear Ed Nassor perform carillon recitals at Washington National Cathedral.
Brutalism in the DMV
Deane Madsen has curated information on brutalist buildings in the DMV through his website Brutalist DC. Explore an exhibition on Brutalism via photography, blueprints, and models called “Capital Brutalism” at the National Building Museum.
