This month’s WETA Arts features how local leaders are adapting to the age of COVID; Arena Stage presents Nicholas Rodriguez, star of their past production of Oklahoma!, soloing a jazzy rendition of “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’”; Alexandria artist Julie Dzikiewicz introduces works that illuminate the fight for social justice; Strathmore Artist in Residence AYO performs “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”; and Round House Theatre tackles life under stay-at-home orders in “Homebound”.

Online Exhibit: When the quarantine order hit, Julie Dzikiewicz was forced to cancel her upcoming exhibit at Monmouth University. Fortunately, now everybody can experience her show “She Persisted” from their own homes! For each of the pieces that would have been exhibited, Dzikiewicz is posting an intimate video exploration, featuring her commentary on the historical and political inspiration behind her work.

Round House

Scripted Series: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Round House Theatre has created Home Bound, an original scripted web series about life in quarantine written by 12 different DC area playwrights. You can watch the full series now on the Round House YouTube page.  

Educational Resources: Also featured on Round House’s YouTube are plenty of opportunities to learn something new about theater. Check out Playwrights on Plays, in which Round House Literary Manager Gabrielle Hoyt discusses significant plays with Round House-affiliated artists. For younger theater fans, Round House has created virtual Theatre Challenges for all age groups.
