Submission Requirements
Recording:
- Up to ~6 minutes per song selection
- HD professional-quality video produced within the last 8 years. Please note, iPhone videos should not be submitted unless filmed by a professional videographer with a tripod.
- The director on the submitted video must be a current director of the ensemble.
- Other technical requirements can be found in the submission form.
Rights:
- We are able to clear many copyrighted pieces of music for broadcast; we suggest you send the name of works to arts@weta.org so we can determine this information before you select it for submission.
- You will need to provide a release granting the right to use the footage itself, and release(s) for your choir/performers. Release forms are downloadable via the submission form.
- If you have a question about rights, please email arts@weta.org for assistance.
Repertoire:
- Submit songs that reflect/are consistent with the holiday and winter season - all styles, genres, languages, and backgrounds welcome.
- We recommend submitting more than one song, and suggest submitting entries with contrasting styles, tempi, content (for example secular vs sacred) and other differentiators. We recommend including at least some entries that are likely to be familiar to a wide viewing audience.
- Performances submitted for consideration for previous episodes of Songs of the Season should not be submitted and will not be accepted.
Community representation:
- We are seeking a wide variety of choir/choral organizations/programs representing all quadrants of DC, and surrounding counties in MD and VA, anywhere in WETA’s broadcast region.
- Community, collegiate, high school, faith-based, secular, professional, amateur, children’s and any other category of choirs and choruses may all submit.
Timeline for project:
- July 1, 2025 – Deadline to submit recordings for consideration.
Submissions:
You are encouraged to submit multiple selections; each selection requires its own entry form.
