The Romantics and Us

Historian Simon Schama sets out to explore the enduring, and occasionally surprising, legacy left by the Romantic period on our modern world. Alongside his own examination of some key pieces of Romantic art, he speaks to some of those making art today to find out how the Romantic spirit lives on in contemporary creative culture. The distinctive style of the era reflected the aspirations, ideals and anxieties of its time, and this series demonstrates how, by examining the creative expression of generations facing a world in similar flux to our own, we may gain valuable insight into what may otherwise seem to be very modern issues.
