The U.S. has now regained all the jobs it lost during the COVID pandemic, in spite of concerns about rising inflation and a possible recession. Employers added 528,000 jobs last month, more than double what economists predicted. Meanwhile, unemployment fell to 3.5 percent, the lowest since the pandemic started. Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell joins John Yang to discuss.

Senate Democrats are one step closer to passing a sweeping tax, climate change, and health care bill now that Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema voiced her support. The last Democratic holdout agreed to vote for the package after party leaders altered some of its tax proposals, giving Democrats enough votes to pass the Inflation Reduction Act as midterm elections approach. Lisa Desjardins reports.

There is another proposal that could make it into the Senate budget deal that would cap the cost of insulin. More than 7 million Americans with diabetes use insulin and about 1 million put an enormous amount of their paycheck toward that medication. We spoke to some of those who are affected by this crucial medicine's high prices and how a legislative proposal could impact their lives.

For the first time since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan, Beijing retaliated against the United States, cutting off dialogue on multiple topics including climate change and sanctioning Pelosi and her family. China also launched the largest military exercise around Taiwan in more than 25 years. Bi-khim Hsiao, Taiwan’s most senior official in the U.S., joins Nick Schifrin to discuss.
