Republican National Convention - Day 2

Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, the first Black person to hold statewide office there, spoke on the second night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 25. In his speech, Cameron criticized Democratic nominee Joe Biden for his comments on race, including his statement that people who vote for President Donald Trump “ain’t black.” Biden later apologized for the comments.

First Lady Melania Trump spoke on the second night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 25, 2020. Trump held an in-person event on Tuesday night when she gave her address from the White House Rose Garden.

He touted the strong economy, saying “Unemployment reached historic lows, especially for Black Americans, Hispanic Americans and Women,” under his father’s tenure. Black unemployment hit a record low prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it had already been declining before Trump took office.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke on the second night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 25, 2020. He said that Trump “has held China accountable for covering up” the initial outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and that China had allowed it “to spread death and economic destruction”—claims that China has consistently denied.

President Donald Trump’s youngest daughter Tiffany Trump spoke on the second night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 25, 2020. The party planned a mix of virtual and in-person events in North Carolina and Washington, D.C., for its nominating convention after the coronavirus pandemic interrupted plans for a traditional nominating event.
