Australia | Animals with Cameras

Wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan fronts the team helping scientists investigate the lives of some of Australia’s most iconic animals. Koalas, fruit bats and kangaroos take the cameras into their secret worlds.

While koalas are known for their lazy daytime behavior, the koala cams reveal they are anything but lazy at night. The cameras also capture a male bellowing, which is the first time this behavior has been recorded in such close proximity.

Flying foxes are extremely valuable to the environment, so it's important to study the health of the population and their whereabouts. To answer the questions of where they go and what they feed on at night, a wearable, nighttime camera was needed.
