Valentijn sneaks into a party, and after a series of unfortunate coincidences is arrested and becomes the prime suspect in a murder. At the police station, he meets the beautiful and ambitious prosecutor, Suze Geleijnse.

Valentijn joins Suze in The Hague when he realizes his painting, Breitner’s “Girl in Kimono,” is a forgery. Looking for information about the fake Breitner, he stumbles on an exhibition by an artist who makes sculptures of human bodies.

To help Suze, Valentijn checks himself into a psychiatric clinic for the wealthy. When a patients is murdered, Valentijn searches for suspects amongst the patients and staff. Meanwhile, new information triggers memories for Valentijn.

Suze's mentor, Simon den Oever, is killed in a terrible car accident. When it is discovered that the brakes were sabotaged, Suze believes Valentijn knows a witness to the accident and recruits him to investigate.

Valentijn decides to visit an old classmate who just became head of a medical faculty where samples of a lethal virus have gone missing. When someone dies of an infection from the stolen virus, it appears to be murder.

Valentijn is recruited to help entertain renowned violinist Monica Altobelli while she is in town. He is honored to accompany the musician in between performances, but the fun is over when Monica's Stradivarius violin disappears.

Valentijn poses as a writer covering the anniversary of a famous ball to get closer to suspects threatening to rob attendees. Despite his best efforts, one wealthy family robbed so Valentijn must work to recover the jewelry.

Because of a personal connection, Suze asks Valentijn to look into the businessman interested in the Beaufort family estate. Valentijn and Suze join the Beauforts for their annual hunt, but things take a turn when a stray bullet hits home.

Valentijn goes undercover as a fight choreographer to discover who is behind the acid attack against a theater director producing MacBeth--the cursed play. Meanwhile, Suze is approached by someone with evidence against the offender.

Suze risks her career when she suspects a major company of being involved in a pyramid scheme that also affects Thaddeus Boarding School where Valentijn was raised. Valentijn digs deeper and soon finds his own life on the line.
