Basking Sharks, the second largest fish on the planet, show up in large numbers off the Irish coast each summer. In the heart of the Kerry mountains Colin encounters Ireland’s oldest herd of Red Deer during the rutting season. Early morning in Killarney National Park and there is aggression in the air as male deer compete to hold down their patch and keep control of their harem.

Overlooking an abandoned Abbey in the heart of the Burren, Colin sits back and enjoys the company of a family of Kestrels who have moved in and made their home here. With three chicks to feed it is a busy time for the parents.

In the heart of winter one particular creature brings life to the desolate valleys in Mayo – the Whooper Swan. Travelling all the way from Iceland to spend the winter in Ireland, Colin meets them as they arrive on Irish shores and settle into their winter valleys.
