Halifax: Retribution

With the sniper claiming his fourth victim – a high-ranking Police Officer – Tom Saracen urges Jane to join the Task Force. Jane’s partner, Ben, is against it: doesn’t she remember why she left?

In the aftermath of Ben’s murder, Jane and Zoe move to a secure high-rise apartment. When Zoe learns about the retribution letter, she lashes out at Jane, blaming her for her father’s death. The Task Force investigate Jane’s past cases, looking for a link to Ben’s murder – and maybe to the shooter as well.

As Jane and the Task Force investigate the latest shootings, Mila investigates Sharon Sinclair (Jacqui Mackenzie). Now a successful crime writer, 20 ago Jane was instrumental in putting Sharon in prison for the murder of her father and stepmother.

In his most horrific attack yet, the shooter unleashes a spray of bullets on a packed party boat celebrating a 21st birthday. Jane fears the shooter is transitioning from serial killer to mass shooter. Uncovering who wrote the retribution letter hasn’t stopped Zoe blaming Jane for Ben’s death.

Jane begins her conversation with the shooter – who identifies himself as "Daniel" – but his motives are still unclear. Jane detects a growing instability, and she also senses he is planning something worse.

As the countdown reaches zero, a citywide alarm system broadcasts Daniel’s message – a manifesto about big data and loss of privacy. Daniel displays his hacking skills when he takes control of the Minister’s car while the investigation into Ben’s murder reveals that Jane was the intended target.

Daniel has at last revealed his identity. His truck is located on a freeway and a dangerous police pursuit ends in an abandoned railyard, but Jane senses a trap.

As Jane and Zoe try and deal with the shocking truth behind Ben’s murder, Jane confronts the shooter as he prepares for a final act – endangering thousands of lives.
