Oman - Desert Canyon

Steve Backshall and a team of experts prepare to descend a canyon in Oman. To avoid heat exhaustion and dehydration, they're on the search for water, but an obstacle stands in their way.

During an abseil, the Expedition team stumbles upon a saw-scaled viper hiding at the bottom of their ropes. With a fast-acting, powerful venom, it's one of the most dangerous species of snake on the planet, and the crew must navigate around it.

Despite being one of the driest places on Earth, water has played a large role in shaping Oman’s landscape. The infrequent but powerful rainfalls have carved out deep canyons across the country.

Steve and Aldo film the wildlife and landscape of Oman during their abseil training as they prepare for their trek through the unexplored canyon. As they work their way toward the camera crew, which will be joining them at a separate location, we get a glimpse of their surroundings through their eyes in this day three video diary.

Aldo Kane is the lead technical rope safety advisor and accompanies Steve on many expeditions. In this film we learn the challenges faced with a drop of about 400 meters whilst abseiling the Jebel Shams.
