On her rounds, Sister Julienne visits a pregnant woman living in an abandoned warehouse with visible bruises who refuses an examination. Meanwhile, the Nonnatus team cares for a man confined to an iron lung after being paralyzed by polio.

Sister Catherine reflects on the sacrifices she’s made to pursue a life devoted to her faith. Sister Julienne reminds her pupil that the pain and uncertainty she experiences are all a part of life’s plan.

During Poplar's Commonwealth Games, Joyce and Rosalind prepare food at the refreshment stand. Joyce takes the opportunity to ask Rosalind if there is anything going on between her and Cyril.
