Julie Huang Tucker

Julie Huang Tucker grew up listening to Classical WETA 90.9 FM as an aspiring musician; now an accomplished choral conductor and keyboard artist, she is excited to be a fill-in host at the station.

She is Music Director at the Falls Church Episcopal and the pianist of QuinTango; she appears regularly at the Kennedy Center and National Cathedral as an organist, accompanist, and chorister. She was a conductor in SHIFT Festival of American Orchestra’s symphonic workshop and Yale’s chamber workshop. As Music Coordinator at the Amy Biehl Foundation in South Africa, she worked with prison inmate and township youth choirs.

Julie holds degrees from Cornell University and University of Oklahoma and was apprenticed in organ building and maintenance at the American Organ Institute and C.B. Fisk. She was a finalist in the Poister National Organ Competition, participant in the International Organ Festival, and winner of the Oklahoma Troxel Competition; her playing has been featured on American Public Media’s Pipedreams.

Julie enjoys adventures: cycling wherever her mountain, cyclocross, and road bikes take her – including across the country – and scaling cliffs by her fingertips while her husband Scott, Director of the Choral Arts Society, watches with trepidation, and their daughter, Zoë, tries to follow. The Tucker trio lives with their cat Zoom up the road from the station in Arlington, VA.
