WETA Classical will be devoting 3 days — September 10-12 — to music for solace and reflection. Programming will include special performances from local musicians including military personnel.

Friday, September 10

From 8pm - 12am, James Jacobs shares an evening of compositions written in response to the 9/11 attacks and other tragedies, as well as music that offers reflection and consolation as we observe the passing of 20 years.

Saturday, September 11

From 8:30 - 10:30am, WETA Classical presents music of contemplation and remembrance. Our morning broadcast will also include moments of silence at the times of the four attacks – 8:46, 9:03, 9:37, and 10:03 – featuring a performance of Taps by a member of the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own.”

Sunday, September 12

On Sunday, WETA Classical continues the weekend of remembrance with two special broadcasts:

  • At 3pm, we will broadcast the National Symphony Orchestra Concert of Remembrance, recorded on September 10.
  • At 9pm, Choral Showcase features music in memory of 9/11/01:  On the Transmigration of Souls by John Adams and A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms.
