A determined young woman protects herself and her father, the king, against a web of deceit, murder and false accusations in this drama composed for the Neapolitan stage.  This presentation is a recorded performance from last season by Washington Concert Opera, conducted by Artistic Director Antony Walker, and features mezzo-soprano Silva Tro Santafé in the title role, and renowned tenor Lawrence Brownlee.

Set in Rome during the 5th century, the opera tells the story of Attila, king of the Huns, and his downfall in Rome.  The opera is one of 14 that Verdi composed during his “galley years”.  This recorded production features the La Scala orchestra and bass Ildar Abdrazakov in the title role.

This debut opera of Gounod is based on the Greek legend of the poet Sapho, caught in competing love, sacrifice and tragedy, set against the ancient Greek Olympics.  This presentation is a recorded performance by Washington Concert Opera from 2018, featuring mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey in the title role, conducted by Artistic Director Antony Walker.

One of the most influential operas of the 18th century, Gluck's opera wraps the legend of Orpheus and his quest to rescue his wife, Eurydice, from the forces of the underworld in powerful yet elegant musical language.  A recorded performance by Rome Opera, with singers Carlo Vistoli and Mariangela Sicilia.
