Mozart's opera seria, a drama based on the ancient Greek myth of Idomeneo, King of Crete, who is beholden to a tragic vow he made with Neptune for safe travel. Considered to be Mozart's "choral opera", this grand scale work showcases Mozart's maturity as an operatic composer. This recorded performance from the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, led by Sir Simon Rattle, featuring Andrew Staples and Magdalena Kožená.
