Guillaume Tell

Rossini’s final opera, dated 1829, is based on Schiller’s play, William Tell, and draws from the Swiss legendary folk hero from the Renaissance era, an expert marksman and figure in Swiss patriotism and independence from Hapsburg rule.  A recorded performance from Vienna State Opera, conducted by Bertrand de Billy with Roberto Frontali in the title role.
