Founded in 2015 by pianist Efi Hackmey and cellist Carrie Bean Stute, Chiarina brings distinctive chamber music performances and innovative programming to an intimate neighborhood setting in Capitol Hill, DC.

The inspiration for Chiarina’s namesake comes from Robert Schumann’s Carnaval, Op. 9, for piano. The name reminds us not only of Schumann’s imaginative spirit, but of his pianist-composer wife Clara, one of the most consequential musical figures in 19th-century Germany.

This concert was their final performance of last season and brings together composers whose distinct voices stand out in their time. Venezuelan-born Moya pulls inspiration from literary sources, and Simon’s work offers spiritual contemplation. Clarke’s prizewinning sonata from 1919 which caused a sensation, and Fauré’s instantly recognizable musical language delights.

Domenic Salerni, violin

Daniel Foster, viola

Carrie Bean Stute, cello
