The mass that "saved church music"? Well, not quite, but the sheer beauty and austerity of Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli (Pope Marcellus mass) so captivated its first listeners that it remains today the best-loved of his 100 masses. We'll hear The Sixteen Choir, along with a performance of the Missa a Capella from 2011 by Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara, a work marked by own simple beauty.
