On Choral Showcase, Part I of our celebration of a musical friendship. Gustav Holst (1874-1934) and Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) met at the Royal College of Music and became best friends, and each other's most valued critic. We'll hear one major work, and one work each dedicated to the other, beginning this week with Holst's The Cloud Messenger, and the Mass in g minor Vaughan Williams dedicated to his friend. We'll conclude with folk song settings by Vaughan Williams.
