Opera Matinee

Nabucco, Verdi's successful third opera, captures the dramatic fall of ancient Jerusalem at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar in patriotic fervor that includes the famous Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves (“Va, pensiero”), in which the Israelites express longing for their homeland.  This live Metropolitan Opera broadcast with George Gagnidze in the title role is conducted by Daniele Calligari.

From the Top

A teenage mezzo-soprano sings from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma and shares a little of her Hawaiian background. We also meet a fantastic 13-year-old pianist who performs Chopin and an ambitious violist from Texas. Plus two young violinists tackle Bach and Wieniawski.
