July 12: Heifetz Institute - Celebrity Series IV & Heifetz Happy Hour

The Celebrity Series expands and moves into prime time! Our Friday night concerts are now full programs with intermission, affording an expanded menu of offerings by our sensational Heifetz faculty. Join us starting at 6:30 as we continue our tradition of offering the finest regional wine, beer, and other light refreshments in the complimentary pre-concert “Heifetz Happy Hour.”

July 12: Wolf Trap - Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony

The National Symphony Orchestra continues its summer season at Wolf Trap with Beethoven’s Ninth, the symphony by which all others are measured. The cosmic drama of this colossal masterwork—its grand, emotional melodies and the tremendous closing “Ode to Joy”—reminds us why Beethoven’s final symphony resounds as loudly today as it did two centuries ago. This sublime program opens with Sphinx Concerto Competition winner Njioma Grevious performing Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s irresistibly bold and lyrical Violin Concerto.

Just in time for Bastille Day, Artistic Director Erin Freeman will lead the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra in a French-inspired program, featuring Georges Bizet’s energetic Symphony in C Major paired with Hector Berlioz’s summer-friendly Les Nuits d'été, featuring our own metropolitan opera star Heather Johnson as soloist. This program also includes the ever-popular Sing with Us! chorus and LEAD Cooperative soloists in Dixit Dominus by Marianna Martines, a contemporary of Mozart. This concert is the ultimate weekend pick-me-up filled with joy, levity, and light!

July 13: Baltimore Symphony Orchestra - Vivaldi's Four Seasons

From the delicate whispers of spring to the fiery passion of summer, each movement of Vivaldi's Four Seasons promises to whisk you away on a musical journey through vivid landscapes in a pastiche of seasonal celebration. The BSO performs this timeless classic with acclaimed violinist Simone Porter.
