Rachmaninoff Celebrations
We continue our Rachmaninoff 150 celebrations this week. This week, we begin our weekly broadcast of the three completed operas by Rachmaninoff on VivaLaVoce's Opera at 8 on Tuesdays with Linda Carducci. On the eve of Orthodox Easter, we are treated to a performance of Rachmaninoff's virtuosic vocal masterpiece, his Vespers, on WETA Classical in a special presentation. On April 15th at 9PM. Founded in 2015 by pianist Efi Hackmey and cellist Carrie Bean Stute, Chiarina brings distinctive chamber music performances and innovative programming to an intimate neighborhood setting in Capitol Hill, DC.
A Choreographed Symphony
This weekend, Choral Showcase presents Maurice Ravel's self-described "choreographic symphony", the ballet Daphnis et Chloe, a work for wordless chorus and orchestra. Originally written for the Ballets Russe in 1912, it is considered his greatest work. Sunday at 9PM ET.
Der Rosenkavalier
An eternal favorite, Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier is a light-hearted opera set in the splendor of 18th Vienna, a backdrop to comedy, romance and bittersweet reflections on aging. Featuring Isabelle Leonard as Octavian and Lise Davidson as the Marschallin, conducted by Simone Young. On this week's Opera Matinee Saturday at 12PM ET.
