Return of Classical Breakdown for Season 4

Classical Breakdown returns for Season 4! We are excited for another season of great explorations of our classical favorites, both old and new. John Banther and Bill Bukowski kick off the season with a deep-dive into a favorite from the repertoire, Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. So many of us know and love this tour-de-force for piano and orchestra, but John and Bill shed new fun facts and a fresh perspective, including Rachmaninoff's secret weapon for performing this piece.

Another classical scoundrel on Choral Showcase

Bill Bukowski continues on his tour of rogues' gallery on Choral Showcase, featuring some of classical's best (or worst) criminals. This week, it's a cautionary tale from Finland's epic, The Kalevala - the sad tale of Kullervo, from an early work by Jean Sibelius for orchestra with chorus and soloists. Sunday night at 9PM ET.

Bel canto Bellini on Opera Matinee

Opera Matinee presents Vincenzo Bellini’s final work, I Puritani, Saturday at 1PM ET. It is a masterpiece about conflicted love set against 17th century English civil war, elevated with the most sublime music of Bellini's bel canto style. We hear a production of Teatro dell’Opera Rome, starring Jessica Pratt and John Osborn, led by Roberto Abbado.

Local violin virtuoso on From the Top

A very exciting local feature on this week's From the Top! We get to meet Jeremy Foster, an 18-year-old violinist from Washington, DC. He is a student of NSO's concertmaster, Nurit Bar-Joseph and he himself is the concertmaster Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras at Strathmore. When he is not a violin prodigy, he enjoys math, physics, baseball, and cooking/baking. Tune in on Sunday at 6PM ET to meet this local virtuoso!
