Choral Showcase
Beatus vir - "Blessed is the One who Trusts in the Lord" comes from the Book of Psalms, and has been set to music many times over the centuries. We'll hear memorable works by Claudio Monteverdi and Marc-Antoine Charpentier; and one steeped in 20th-century history by Polish composer Henryk Gorecki.
Opera Matinee
Wagner's moving and magical opera that blends two German legends -- Tannhäuser, the medieval poet and composer and the tale of Wartburg Song Contest -- in a tale of struggle between the forces of earthly pleasure and sacred love. A production of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, featuring Endrik Wottrich in the title role, led by Lü Jia.

Featuring some of the most exciting performances out of From the Top’s archives, host Peter Dugan brings us From the Top’s 2021 Highlights Program. We hear a powerful performance of the opening movement of Chopin’s Sonata No. 2 Opus 35 by a young pianist from L.A. We then meet a teenage guitarist who fled Iran for religious reasons and credits music for getting him through the toughest times at a refugee camp. We also enjoy a 16-year-old violinist’s showy and charismatic performance of the Carmen Fantasy by Franz Waxman.
