Opera Matinee

Unheard since its premiere in 1842, Verdi's Il Proscritto (The Outlaw) is a drama of divided loyalties set in Edinburgh at the time of Oliver Cromwell.  Mercadante's creative orchestration includes harmonic and dramatic innovations, influenced by French opera.  Renowned tenor Ramón Vargas in the title role.  A production of Opera Rara, conducted by Carlo Rizzi.

Choral Showcase

A number of choral groups call Philadelphia home, enhancing its stature as one of the most musical places in the world. This weekend on Choral Showcase, The Crossing Choir joins Piffaro for local composer Kile Smiths' Vespers; James Jordan directs The Same Stream in a poetic work by Thomas LaVoy; and Variant 6 presents an energetic piece by Joanne Metcalf. And organist and conductor Peter Richard Conte leads the Saint Clement's Choir in music of Victoria.

From the Top

It’s From the Top’s Annual “Where are They Now” show this week with host Peter Dugan! We catch up with musicians who’ve been on the program to find out what they’ve been doing lately and to hear the fantastic music they’ve been making. We revisit two violinist alums who are now a part of the award winning Calidore String Quartet and an alum harpist who’s founded her own non-profit. There is also a thrilling new work for cello.
