La fanciulla del West (The Girl of the West) by Puccini is a sweeping romance set in a frontier mining town during the California Gold Rush between an intrepid saloon owner and a bandit. Puccini's opera, premiered at the Metropolitan Opera in 1910, is noted for its impressive orchestration and integration of narrative and music. A production of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, led by Andrea Battistoni.
