On this month’s NSO Showcase, we take you back in time to one of a series of post-Pandemic “Welcome Back” concerts performed at the Kennedy Center in March, 2021. The concerts were played for a small audience of about 250 music lovers by a chamber-sized orchestra of approximately 32 players. Brass and woodwinds were corralled behind plexiglass partitions, which Maestro Noseda explained, made playing together challenging. In spite of these obstacles, it was a joy for the musicians to perform together after the long silence of the Covid shutdown. This retrospective program features Ottorino Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances Suite No.3, the Symphony No.1 by the Chevalier de St.-Georges, Joseph Bologne, Quiet City by Aaron Copland, Mozart’s “Grand” G-minor Symphony No.40 and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings. Tune in for NSO Showcase Wednesday evening, March 4 at 9 pm or stream all month long.
