Attention young string players! Here’s your chance to play with one of the premiere chamber ensembles in the DMV: the National Chamber Ensemble (NCE).

NCE presents concerts throughout the year in Arlington under the direction of violinist Leonid Sushansky. Their 2022-23 “Season of Cultural Expression” launches on November 5 at the Gunston Arts Center with a program of “Jewish Musical Treasures.”

This year, it’s open to string players between the ages of 12 and 18 who reside in Virginia, DC, or Maryland. You can find all the details on the NCE website, but in a nutshell:

  • The preliminary round is conducted through YouTube submissions;

  • The final round is a live competition on November 26 and is open to the public;

  • The first-place winner will receive a $750 scholarship and a solo performance opportunity with NCE on December 10.

Check back here on the Classical Score blog for updates on the competition.

The application deadline is November 14, so get practicing those scales!
