Human Resources Administrator

Full-time, Exempt

Reports to: Director, Human Resources

JOB OBJECTIVE:

The HR Administrator will play a key role in supporting the HR department in various administrative tasks to ensure smooth and efficient HR operations. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. The HR Administrator is responsible for managing HR documents, updating internal databases, assisting in the recruitment process, data gathering and analytics, and other duties as assigned.

This individual will be responsible for maintaining employee records, managing HR documents, and assisting with HR operations, as well as talent and employee engagement efforts. The ideal candidate will have excellent administrative skills and be able to work comfortably with employees at all levels within the organization. This role will also require excellent multi-tasking ability and project management skills. This role will report to the Director of HR with a dotted line to the Director of DEI.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administrative Support:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR files (HRIS).
    • Manage HR documentation such as employment contracts, offer letters, and termination paperwork.
    • Update internal databases with new hire information, separations, and other employment changes.
    • Processes HR invoices and expenses for approval.
    • Maintain LMS (learning management systems) for WETA/NHP including Navex, and LinkedIn Learning
    • Administer employee life event acknowledgements according to WETA policies (e.g., order flowers for births, deaths).
    • Maintains HR email account
    • Assist with special HR projects, conduct research, and perform other duties as required.
    • Support in the execution and implementation of DEI projects, programs, and initiatives as needed.
  • Recruitment and Onboarding:
    • Assist in the recruitment process by posting job advertisements, screening resumes, and scheduling interviews.
    • Support the coordination of onboarding activities, including orientation sessions and preparing onboarding materials.
    • Supports Intern, Fellowship and Early Career Program, coordinates postings, coordinates logistics for events.
    • Conduct background checks and verify/document employment eligibility requirements.
    • Coordinate weekly update of open positions to staff.
  • Payroll and Benefits Support:
    • Assist with payroll processing by providing necessary employee information and updates.
    • Support employee inquiries related to payroll and benefits.
    • Assist Payroll Manager with annual auditing
    • Supports benefits open enrollment and administration as needed
  • Compliance and Policy Management:
    • Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
    • Keep abreast of changes in HR laws and regulations.
    • Maintain current documentation of established HR policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Employee Relations:
    • Serve as a secondary point of contact for HR-related inquiries.
    • Maintains employee files, both electronic and hard copy (as needed).
    • Track employee referrals and payments.
    • Promote a positive workplace culture and ensure employee engagement.
  • Training and Development:
    • Coordinate and support training sessions and workshops.
    • Maintain training records and monitor completion of required mandatory trainings.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with HR software and databases.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000

LOCATION

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
