Nearly two decades after the sex abuse horrors in the Catholic Church were exposed, a new Pew poll finds more than 25% of U.S. Catholics say they’re skipping church more and pulling back on donations because of it. Author James Carroll is one of the disillusioned, but he’s no ordinary churchgoer. A former priest, he now has a radical idea for how the Church can save itself: abolish the priesthood.
