Ocean Conservancy is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC that works to bring people together to find solutions for our water planet. Our annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is one such initiative, celebrating its 32nd year this September. Since the ICC began, volunteers in over 150 countries have removed 28 million of pounds of trash from our beaches, waterways and ocean, helping to protect wildlife, individuals and local economies. Not only do hundreds of thousands of people join together each year to remove harmful debris from the environment, but they also record what they are collecting and report back to Ocean Conservancy. This results in the world’s largest marine debris data set which allows us to hone in on solutions and prevent ocean trash in the first place.
Join Ocean Conservancy for the local ICC event here in Washington, DC on Saturday, September 16th from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM at Kingman Island. The event will be working with The Living Classrooms Foundation, connecting local action with the global effort of the International Coastal Cleanup. The island is accessible via the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, so we encourage volunteers to metro, bike, run or walk to the event. Please feel free to RSVP on the Facebook Event page, and request a free t-shirt using our Eventbrite page.
