Hands Accross The C

Charles Timbrell received degrees in piano performance from Oberlin Conservatory, the University of Michigan, and the University of Maryland. He also pursued post-graduate studies in Rome with Guido Agosti and in Paris with Gaby Casadesus. He has performed extensively in the United States, Canada, the Czech Republic, England, France, Italy, Scotland, and Wales. His playing has been described as “masterly, with real insight” (London Times) and “strong, extroverted and colorful” (New York Times).

He has recorded for the Dante label (France) and has made two DVDs of French piano music for IMC (Japan). He is frequently in demand as a lecturer and adjudicator of national and international competitions, and has also served for four years on the Fulbright Selection Committee in Piano. Dr. Timbrell is the author of French Pianism (Amadeus Press) and performing editions of works by Chopin and Bizet (Alfred Publications). He is professor emeritus at Howard University
Li-Ly Chang, pianist, composer, teacher, chamber musician. She has received many grants and awards including  MD State Arts Council,Jordan Kitts Music Teacher's Enrichment grant, MD State Music Teachers Association and Montgomery County Music Teachers Association grants . Her performances include the Dame Myra Hess Series, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Roosevelt Hall, Shriver Hall, Strathmore Center, Savannah on Stage Festival, Levine School, and New England Conservatory . She had her Bachelor Degree from National Taiwan University, Master Degree from University of Texas, and Gradate Studies in piano, composition, chamber music at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. Her piano teachers include Sacha Gorodnitzki, Leon Fleisher, Sequeira Costa, Fernando Laires, Walter Hautzig, Jack Winerock and Ming Tcherepnin. Composition teachers are Joe Nelson, John Pozdro and Henry Mitchell. “The Ensemble , with Li-Ly  Chang, pianist , showed expert partnership, emotional expressiveness, and a firm sense of partnership”-Washington Post. “Shostakovich Piano Quintet gives room to Ms Chang’s piano virtuosity . Her playing with Sunrise Quartet’s was mesmerizing with a touch a Russian sentiments” -World Journal, Rockville MD . She has been invited to perform and teach at International School  in Shanghai in 2017.  She was a music panelist for the Maryland State Arts Council and is the Director of the International Young Artist Piano Competition, Washington DC. She is a faculty member at the Montgomery College in Rockville,MD.
