Gypsy Romance: Songs, Poetry & Castanets of Spain

A special concert not to be missed, capturing the enduring passion of Spain through song, poetry, and its signature percussion instrument–the castanets. Cantigas presents a rarely-performed combination of classical guitar and choir with Romancero Gitano (Gypsy Balladeer) by Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco. Originally written for Andres Segovia, it comprises seven beautiful movements, each set to poems by the late, celebrated Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. Also featured is El Limonar Florido (The Lemon Grove in Blossom) by American composer Paul Carey, set to the poetry of another influential 20th century Spanish poet, Antonio Machado. In an exceptional line-up, Cantigas collaborates with renowned, Spanish castanet virtuoso Carmen de Vicente, who thrills audiences as she evokes the spirit of Spain with her artistry and its popular songs.
