Trey Graham is a part time host on WETA Classical. A longtime arts journalist in the nation’s capital, he’s a veteran most recently of NPR, where he spent seven years covering movies, theater, galleries, books and more. He steered development of the NPR pop-culture blog, Monkey See, and was one of the original panelists on the network’s Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast.
For two decades, Trey also covered D.C.-area theater for the Washington City Paper, where his work earned him the George Jean Nathan Award for distinguished drama criticism. His career has also included a stint at USA Today, where among other things he served as music and theater editor. He was a longtime panelist on WETA’s Around Town, and in a prior millennium, he was a weekend anchor on WGMS-FM.
Born in New Orleans and brought up in South Carolina, Trey started singing in public at the age of 5 and studied classical voice in college, but traded dreams of being an opera singer for the written word when he discovered that “baritenor” wasn’t a paying position.
