The Washington Bach Consort's next concert on April 30, 2017 at National Presbyterian Church--the final one of this season--has Acting Artistic Director Todd Fickley conducting Handel's Messiah. Maestro Fickley is one of the finalists for Consort Artistic Director to succeed J. Reilly Lewis, who passed away last June. This Messiah concert will be Fickley's "public audition" for the position; the other finalists will conduct concerts next season. The Consort has said that the search will be very open, and that they welcome comments from audience members about the candidates. Classical WETA will augment the process by having a Classical Conversation with each candidate, and by airing each finalist's concert on Choral Showcase. Classical WETA's David Ginder chats this time with finalist Todd Fickley about his relationship with Bach, his rehearsal style, and about Handel's masterpiece.
